The Youth Justice Legal Centre (YJLC) provides legal knowledge and expertise about children’s rights in the criminal justice system, through a collection of online resources. They needed a new digital offering that would allow both legal professionals and young defendants' families to easily access their expertise, and stand out from a typical legal website.
We decided to take a typographic approach to the design – partly because of the challenge of sourcing photography relevant to youth justice, but also because it let us pursue a bolder visual style that still felt appropriate to the content. As part of this pared back approach we designed a clear, long-form reading experience for YJLC's legal guides, which provide in-depth guidance for users on a variety of key issues.
A well structured, easily navigable website was needed to help users quickly find the resources they were looking for. Colour-coded sections differentiate the various types of content and allow users to locate themselves easily within the site structure.
